find the woman's face in the cave formations?
The Inner Space Caverns are located just north of Austin, Texas, in the USA. On the ceiling of the caverns, I saw what appeared to be a woman's face in the rock formations of the ceiling. As I created a simple watercolor based on this phenomena, it seemed the title "Inner Space" was very suitable, so I retained it. Symbolically, the painting represents that inner space where we are alone, a space that is sometimes filled with frightening thoughts, a place where we can feel vulnerable and unprotected. As I was working on the design, the story of La Llorona (the crying woman), came to mind. She is a character from Mexican folklore. The legend tells of a woman who drowned her children in a fit of jealousy when she saw her husband with a younger woman. According to the story, her ghost now wanders endlessly along the river, searching for them. If you would like to read the legend, here it is click here. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Llorona) You will find other colorways and sizes of this design in the complete Inner Space collection. This strikes me as a fabric very suitable for Halloween, and definitely is a design with a gothic character. The image of the woman's face is quite eerie, yet is only observed by those who look closely. If you would like the design in a different size, or in a different format, just let me know. I would be glad to scale it to your specifications. Thanks for stopping by my shop. Happy sewing! Copyright - Mary Beglau Wykes - April 21, 2016
