I've been so impressed with how our local library system and staff have handled the pandemic situation. From making sure they handed out as many WiFi hotspots as possible before closing (and then donating more to local schools), to pivoting to online storytimes and digital services, to getting pressed into work as Disaster Service Workers handing out meals and helping at the food bank, to opening up for the best-organized sidewalk pickup system ever (seriously, they processed 15,000 holds and checked out 3,000 library materials in the first week), Oakland Public Library has been awesome. I've always thought librarians were superheroes anyway, but the pandemic response has confirmed it. The retro style and some of the specific details (like the owls and oak leaves) were inspired by our local library branch, built in 1930.
