My mother has an orange and white embroidered table cloth (you can see what it looks like on frame 3402040) that she got from her mother at some point before I was born. Whether it was new when her mother got it, or handed down from someone else, whether she brought it with her from Lithuania when she came to the United States (probably in the 1917-19 era) or whether it was a wedding gift (making it from 1923) I have no way to guess. My mother does not know, and my grandmother is not alive. But when I look at these background checks, vertical stripes, zig zags, and shades of rust and orange, hearts, poppies, and art nouveau twisting stems, I see the connection to that old design. How this came to look like that is an art mystery. I draw whatever I feel like, with no pre-plan, color it, and scan the drawing, then see what I have gotten. I liken the process to making messages from a Ouija board. There is nothing real there. But as in this example, I repeatedly get feelings and styles from the 1880's-1920's era as if some spirit of another long dead artist were at work from within my soul. Of course I do not believe that is possible. But this design sure wears its Edwardian heritage out there for all to see. Beats me how that happened. (file aa165b2-ch, #6165642) The boring fine print (that is actually the same size as all the other print): The size (scale) you see displayed in all Spoonflower offerings is actually only a suggestion. In my case it is the size I personally wanted for my eight inch proof of the design. Because this is custom printing designs can be made in any (technically possible and reasonable looking) size. You can even order the same design in two sizes, such as a yard of big and a yard of small, to use together. This does take communication and co-ordination with the artist. But do not think that the scale you see on the screen is the only way the design comes. If you need tiny and the design is big, or the reverse, you can buy a design you like that way.
